Digital history and geography tests, with sources

In history and geography, a test revolves around sources. In TestWisely you add a source with text, an image, a map or a table to your test and attach questions to it. For geography there is the question type Diagram, for a bar chart or climate graph.

What you can do in history and geography

Source question with text, image, map or table

In the Questions step, click Add source (Voeg bron toe). Give the source a title and a source reference and choose what goes in it: text, an image or map, or a table. You may combine these, and you can paste a table straight from Excel. With + New question you attach more questions to the same source. If you change the source, the change applies to all its questions.

The student sees the source next to the question

Sources are numbered automatically, so in your question you refer to Source 1 or Source 2. The student sees the source to the left of the question, or above it on a narrow screen. An image or map is enlarged when the student clicks it. With read-aloud switched on, the Read text aloud button reads the source aloud.

Bar chart and climate graph in geography

In geography you have the question type Diagram. You put categories on the x-axis, such as the twelve months, and set up the y-axis with a label, unit and step. Bars the student already sees, you tick as given. The student drags the rest to the correct height, with mouse, finger or arrow keys. For a climate graph you add a line with its own axis, such as the temperature. A bar is correct within the margin you choose.

Having questions generated for a source

If AI is switched on for your school, you click Have questions generated (Vragen laten maken) in the source. You choose the level, the class and the number of questions per question type. The AI only uses what is in the source. In history it also asks about source skills, such as extracting information from the source and placing the source in time. If the source contains a table with figures, in geography it can also create a diagram question. Review the questions before you schedule the test.

  • Have questions generated

How it works

  1. Create a test

Click + New test (+ Nieuwe toets). In history, geography and the other humanities and social science subjects, the Questions step has the Add source button.

  2. Build the source and the questions

Put text, an image or map, or a table in the source and attach questions to it. Or have questions generated for the source and adjust them afterwards.

  3. Schedule and mark

Click Save and schedule (Opslaan en klaarzetten). TestWisely marks multiple choice and diagram questions itself. When marking and in the review, you see the source as the student saw it.
