Software developer: secure exam app for Windows
Work on our own app in which students take tests securely on Windows laptops. You help finish a new version and make sure every release goes out tested and reliable. Also possible as a bachelor's team.

What it is about
During a test, everything simply has to work. The student is thinking about the questions, not the laptop. That is why we built our own exam app for Windows that opens the test in a locked-down environment. You will make that app stronger, on the laptops that schools actually use.
Why now
A new version is ready to be finished. That is a good moment to join: the foundation is in place, and what you add goes straight into the next release. You work on software that runs on school laptops, and that is not something you learn from a book.
What you will do
- Help finish the new version of the app
- Test on real school laptops, with the settings that schools use
- Set up automatic updates so that a school never has to think about them
- Make sure a test simply carries on when the wifi drops for a moment or a laptop restarts
- Set up an automated test suite that runs with every release
What you learn, and what you deliver
We set your learning goals together with you and your school or university. Every programme has its own requirements, and we think it matters more that the goals match what you want to learn than that they are already listed on this page. It is one of the first things we discuss in the interview.
End product
You leave with something finished that you can show: work that is live, or research we can build on afterwards. What exactly that will be, we decide together once we know what you want to get good at.
What you work with
The exchange
What we ask of you
- You are enrolled in a degree programme at a university or university of applied sciences, in software engineering or computer science, on your own or as part of a bachelor's team
- You have experience with JavaScript or Node.js
- You enjoy testing something until you dare to rely on it
- You understand that software simply has to work at test time, and you work carefully towards that
A plus, not a requirement
- Experience with Electron or other desktop apps
- Knowledge of Windows management or of how schools roll out laptops
- Experience with CI, for example GitHub Actions
What we offer in return
- A good learning path, with guidance from people who know the craft
- Several hours a week with one of the founders, not a group intake
- Equipment and your own desk if you need them
- Travel expenses covered if you do not have a student public transport pass
- Real barista coffee, made with the best beans in all of Amsterdam
- A reference afterwards, and a chance of a job with us
