What it is about
What people say and what they do are not always the same. A teacher tells you marking is going fine and sighs at the third click. You will watch, ask and measure, so that we build on what really happens instead of on what we think happens.
Why now
Teachers and students use the platform every day. So there is plenty to research, and what you find lands directly with the people who build it. Your findings will not become a report in a drawer, but the next improvement.
What you will do
- Interview teachers, mentors and students
- Observe in the classroom how the platform is really used
- Set up and run usability tests, and do small measurements to see whether an improvement works
- Turn your findings into concrete improvements, together with designers and developers
- Pay extra attention to accessibility, for example for students with dyslexia
- Work carefully when doing research with minors: always with consent, arranged through the school
What you learn, and what you deliver
We set your learning goals together with you and your school or university. Every programme has its own requirements, and we think it matters more that the goals match what you want to learn than that they are already listed on this page. It is one of the first things we discuss in the interview.
End product
You leave with something finished that you can show: work that is live, or research we can build on afterwards. What exactly that will be, we decide together once we know what you want to get good at.
What you work with
The exchange
What we ask of you
- You are enrolled in a degree programme at a university or university of applied sciences, in Communication and Multimedia Design, HCI, psychology, educational science or something similar
- You ask good questions and listen longer than you talk
- You can turn what you see into a clear story that someone else can work with
- You treat people with care, and students in particular
A plus, not a requirement
- Experience doing research with children or young people
- Knowledge of accessibility or dyslexia
- You can set up and analyse a small measurement yourself
What we offer in return
- A good learning path, with guidance from people who know the craft
- Several hours a week with one of the founders, not a group intake
- Equipment and your own desk if you need them
- Travel expenses covered if you do not have a student public transport pass
- Real barista coffee, made with the best beans in all of Amsterdam
- A reference afterwards, and a chance of a job with us
